College notebook: Heffner leads Marian men’s golf to win

Junior Brandon Heffner was the individual medalist with a two-round score of 142 as Marian University men’s golf won the 15-team Midway Eagle Invitational. Sophomore teammate Luke Beetz, another Center Grove graduate, competed as an individual and placed 20th with a score of 150.

Center Grove

Noah Gillard placed second individually with his three-round score of 213 as Indiana men’s golf hosted the Hoosier Collegiate, winning the 15-team event. IUPUI took fifth in the team standings, with freshman Brady Schier shooting a 241 to tie for 75th.

Indiana Wesleyan baseball player Drue Young was named Crossroads League pitcher of the week for the second time in his career. Young led the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Mt. Vernon Nazarene with seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight.

Missouri freshman shortstop Drew Culbertson singled as the Tigers’ baseball team got past Florida, 11-10, and singled in a 5-4 home loss to SIU Edwardsville.

Indiana’s 15-4 win at Maryland in baseball included three hits and four runs from sophomore shortstop Tyler Cerny, who then had two hits and two runs scored in a 14-2 victory over the Terrapins.

IU Kokomo pitcher Asa Christie improved his season record to 3-0 with the team’s 12-10 win at Brescia, working an inning of middle relief and allowing a hit and two runs.

Mount St. Joseph senior third baseman Kaci Finchum singled in the softball team’s 4-1 loss to Hanover, and doubled and drove in a run in the second game of the doubleheader, a 7-3 victory.

University of Indianapolis senior Gabrielle Harrell finished ninth in the 10,000-meter run at the Jim Vargo Invitational with a time of 39 minutes, 54.60 seconds.

Franklin

Butler golfer Damon Dickey tied for the 25th spot at the Hoosier Collegiate at IU with a three-round score of 230.

UIndy sophomore golfer Ava Ray tied for 30th individually with scores of 79 and 83 as the Greyhounds won the NC4K Classic.

Marian freshman Brooke Coffman came in fifth in the high jump at the Tennessee Invite.

Eli Cochrane was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:01.95) and part of the second-place 4×400 relay as Franklin College men’s track and field competed at the Manchester Spring Invitational.

Greenwood

Sophomore Anna Pritchett singled three times and stole two bases as Marian softball downed Huntington, 6-2. Pritchett also singled in a 4-0 win at St. Francis and singled twice in a 6-4 loss to Grace College.

The UIndy softball squad scored a pair of victories over Lewis, with senior catcher Lexy Rees collecting two hits and driving in a pair of runs and teammate Dominique Proctor adding a single.

Emily Bonser won the shot put competition as UIndy women’s track and field competed at the Jim Vargo Invitational. Men’s thrower Dylan Mayhew took second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put.

Franklin College senior Mallory Watson placed 12th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:23.39 at the Manchester Spring Invitational.

Whiteland

Junior shortstop Macy Cornelius delivered three singles and stole a base for Mount St. Joseph softball in its 7-3 win over Hanover.

Trine pitcher Debbie Hill allowed four hits and struck out 11 batters in a 4-1 victory at Kalamazoo. The sophomore followed with a four-hitter in Trine’s 5-1 win at Adrian.

Morehead State pitcher Luke Helton helped the Eagles win at Tennessee Tech, 9-2, allowing seven hits over eight innings and striking out five.

Roncalli

Florida freshman pitcher Keagan Rothrock (Whiteland) upped her mark to 17-3 this season with a complete-game four-hitter in the Gators’ 4-2 triumph over LSU.
