John Main

John Edwin Main of Nashville, Indiana passed away on May 5, 2024 at the age of 77.

John was born November 9,1946, in Columbus, Indiana to the late Carl F. Main and Hazel I. (Fair) Main of Columbus.

John graduated from Columbus High School in 1966. He attended Mesa State Junior College, The University of Colorado and IUPUC. He was a graduate of the 50th class of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. During his lifetime he worked as a licensed agent for New York Life Insurance Company, in management at Three Guys Incorporated and Coffman Wholesale. John served as a volunteer reserve deputy for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and became an officer in 1978. He rose to the rank of Captain of the road patrol. He was the firearms instructor for five counties and was a certified search and recovery diver.

In 1985 he left law enforcement and joined Non Ferrous Products/IBC Advanced Alloys Corporation in Franklin, IN. While there he worked as a band-saw operator, assistant foreman and foreman of the forge. He became Vice President and Operations Manager of the company and finished his career as the Technical Sales Representative retiring in 2010.

After retirement John moved to Nashville, Indiana, and became a member of the Brown County Historical Society. He served as First Vice president of the Society from 2016 – 2020. He served as chairman of the budget committee and the building and grounds committee. Over the course of the past 10 years he worked on many repair and improvement projects for the Brown County History Center and the Pioneer Village. He enjoyed planning projects and working with his hands. He could always be found in his barn or at the History Center.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years Brenda A.(Frazier) Main, son Jason E. Main (Christine) of Minot, ND, and daughter Elizabeth A. Paschen (Kent) of Centerville, UT, grand children Jacob “Eli” Main, Ruby A. Main and David A. Main of Minot, ND and Veronika L. Paschen and Nadia R. Paschen of Centerville, UT, and sisters Marilyn L. Harbaugh (Terry) of Oak Harbor, WA and Martha A Butler (Chuck) of Columbus, IN as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Burns and nephew Thomas Harbaugh. John was very proud of his wife, children and grand children and their many accomplishments.

He enjoyed attending NASCAR races with friends and family. He traveled coast to coast throughout the United States and lived for 18 months in Germany as a teenager. John enjoyed telling stories, being called “Chef John” and preparing meals for his family and friends usually followed by board games or cards.

John’s request was to be cremated and for family and friends to gather for a celebration of life.

John’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 23rd from 1-4 at the Brown County History Center 90 E Gould St. Nashville, IN.
