Phillip Earl Kelly, 87 of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 in Indianapolis.

He was born on February 24, 1937 in Belding, Michigan to Paul and Roxie0 (Vaught) Kelly. He married Marlene Whitaker on September 7, 1963. She preceded him in passing on November 28, 2016. He is survived by two children, Susan L. (Greg) Griner and Phillip E. (Lynn) Kelly, Jr.; four grandchildren, Ramzi (Beth) Shoumali, McKenzie (Brett) Dulworth, Kacie (Jon) Miller and Katelyn (John) Owen and seven great grandchildren, Charlotte, Easton, Braylee, Brookelynn, Nora, Tate and Hallie. Also surviving are sister-in-laws, Sondra Kelly and Joyce Kelly and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Marlene; and brothers, William Kelly, Robert Kelly, David Kelly and Thomas Kelly.

Phil was a graduate of Whiteland Community High School. Phil was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963.

He was a Pipefitter at Eli Lilly, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Phil was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Franklin. Phil was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 2839 and a member of the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205. He enjoyed the Indianapolis 500 where he was a Speedway Observer for twenty-five years. Phil loved spending time with family and movie nights. He was very involved with the opening of Tyler’s Auto.

Jimmie McGaha will conduct a Celebration of Phil’s life on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with visitation on Wednesday, May 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted by the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
