After missing more than two weeks of classes, the Center Grove High School junior wasn’t sure she would graduate with the rest of her class.

Taylor Dollens suffers from chronic migraines and was home sick for 12 days last year. The absences quickly stacked up, and when Dollens was in class she felt lost.

Geometry was especially a problem. Because Dollens had missed so many lectures and assignments, she didn’t always understand what was going on. By the end of last year she had failed four of her regular classes, and if she wanted to graduate on time she needed to find a way to complete those courses as well as all the required classes for her senior year.

That’s when her counselor recommended she transfer to Center Grove’s alternative academy.
