Center Grove is considering opening a building specifically for its kindergartners, but first teachers need to know whether that would improve students’ learning.
Next month Center Grove teachers will start researching early-childhood centers around Indiana to see how effectively they teach kindergartners. They need to find out whether a kindergarten class offered in a building focusing exclusively on young children is any better than a traditional elementary school.
They’ll visit four Indiana schools with early-childhood centers and review their schedules and teaching methods. They’ll also see how classes such as music and art help students understand subjects such as math and English, director of curriculum Wendy Kruger said.
