Seconds after waking up, pleasant dreams revert to cruel realities.
Some nights, John Monaghan will dream about the activities he used to love. A lifelong athlete, he ran marathons, competed in swimming races and was training for his first Ironman Triathlon. His imagination will take him to old races and favorite road courses.
Then he opens his eyes. A few seconds pass before he remembers he’ll never walk again.
