Johnson County Animal Control is investigating the neglect of two dogs found during the weekend.

The dogs, brought in as strays to a local shelter, had fur matted so badly that they could not walk or open their eyes or mouths. They were brought to Johnson County Animal Control by a man who said they had been left in a cage on his porch. The animals likely had been locked in cages for months or even years, office manager Cari Klotzsche said.

“This can’t happen just from being a stray,” she said.
