A Clifford man was arrested Thursday night after police said he attempted to steal anhydrous ammonia.
Chester Douglas Sidwell, 48, 8057 John St., was arrested on charges of theft or receiving stolen property and criminal mischief and on a parole violation.
Police were called to Premier Ag Co-op, 2738 W. County Road 300S, Trafalgar, after someone reported a strange odor coming from the business. A deputy found two 20-pound propane tanks
connected to a larger tank containing anhydrous ammonia, a fertilizer that also can be used to make methamphetamine.
