Nursing mothers can donate breast milk to help needy babies through Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis.
Franciscan St. Francis Health is partnering with Indiana Mothers Milk Bank to provide a convenient location at its Indianapolis campus for pre-approved donor mothers to drop off their breast milk.
The milk will be donated to premature babies for its proven effects of decreasing the chances of infection and improving cognitive development and immune systems.
The hospital will store the milk, and the milk bank will pick it up on a routine basis.
The grand opening for the new depot station will be 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 10. The station is in Classroom 1 near Entrance 5 at the hospital, 8111 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis.
Breastfeeding mothers are welcome to learn more about how to donate.
