A Brownsburg teacher has been named the 2013 Indiana Teacher of the Year.
Suzanne Whitton, who teaches visual arts to elementary students at Delaware Trail Elementary School, was told Friday she had been selected.
A committee from the Indiana Department of Education, which included previous Teacher of the Year honorees, residents and educational leaders, chose Whitton after interviewing and visiting her and nine other finalists, a department of education news release said.
Two Johnson County teachers, Kelli Park of Franklin Community High School and Joshua Torres of Center Grove Community High School, were among finalists for the 2013 award.
