Defending state champion and top-ranked Carmel outlasted the Center Grove boys tennis team 4-1 during Friday’s quarterfinal match of the IHSAA state finals Friday at the Todd Whitsken Tennis Center in Carmel.

The No. 7 Trojans (17-6) kept pace during the first hour of play, but the Greyhounds gradually took control and sealed the outcome with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles and in both doubles matches.

Center Grove sophomore Conner Andersen got the Trojans’ only point, beating senior Chris Quammen in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

“Even though it turned out to be a little bitter-sweet, I always thought I had a pretty good chance of winning,” Andersen said after winning his match.
