Four county marching bands participated in the Greenwood Marching Band Invitational this weekend, with Center Grove capturing the top prize in its class.
The Marching Trojans took home first place on Saturday in Class A for their performance of “The Guardians,” sweeping the caption awards for best music, visual, general effect, color guard and percussion.
The Whiteland Marching Warriors received fifth place in Class B for their show “Earth Cycle.”
As the only competitor in Class C, Indian Creek’s Marching Braves were awarded first place and all of the caption awards for the class.
The Greenwood Marching Woodmen performed their show “Nocturne” in exhibition only as the host band.
Earlier in the day, Center Grove placed third in Class A at the Avon Invitational while also earning the caption award for best percussion.
The Franklin Community High School Blue Regiment competed Saturday at the Hamilton Southeastern Royal Invitational. Franklin placed third in its class in the Mid-States Band Association competition, which featured 28 bands.
The next Franklin performance will be at the Indiana State School Music Association Marching Band Festival on Oct. 6, hosted at Franklin.
