Hanna Johnson’s eyes probably became as a wide as the 24-foot span of the goalposts when the opportunity was suddenly presented to break the deadlock in a knock-down, drag-out regional championship match.
“I was really nervous because I knew it was either me or nothing,” Johnson said. “I’m used to playing with a lot of pressure, but I thought, ‘Wow, this is it.’
“I didn’t want to disappoint my teammates.”
The junior forward didn’t miss, taking a nifty pass from senior teammate Sarah Standley and booting the ball past the outstretched arms of Warren Central goalkeeper Adeline Runkel into the net to lift Center Grove to a 2-1 victory in the Shelbyville Regional girls soccer final late Saturday afternoon.
