Neither an altered lineup nor the threat of inclement weather was enough to prevent No. 8 Center Grove from winning the 2012 Johnson County Boys Tennis Tournament on Friday.
In fact, even without No. 1 singles player Luke Andersen, the Trojans, playing on their home courts, cruised to a 4-1 victory against Greenwood in the championship match.
Andersen, who was on an out-of-state college visit, was replaced by sophomore Eric Rudell, an alternate to the team’s starting lineup who had previously seen action only at No. 3 singles this year.
The decision to insert Rudell at the No. 1 spot was based on a state tournament rule that prevents regular starters from being juggled or moved up once a roster has been submitted for competition.
