Through the instrumental burst of “Smile and Believe,” a cherubic voice preaches positive thinking.

Abigail Johnson, a 9-year-old girl from the Center Grove area, stresses that even when things are going wrong and life is getting ugly, beauty is all around.

“Good things will happen when you keep your spirit breezy,” she sings.

She speaks from experience. The girl was born with malrotation, a condition where her entire digestive system was flipped around. Multiple surgeries at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health helped correct the problem.
