Southern Indiana volleyball player Kayla Heldman, a Center Grove High School graduate, was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Screaming Eagles (7-3) to the championship of the Townplace Suites Findlay Classic.
The senior averaged 4.7 digs per game and had a .954 serving percentage on 65 attempts, thereby earning the tournament’s Outstanding Libero award. Southern Indiana defeated Mercyhurst and Findlay by 3-0 scores, and Hillsdale and Malone 3-0.
Following the tournament, Southern Indiana lost 3-1 to Rockhurst and defeated William Jewell 3-2. Heldman had 43 digs and eight assists in the two matches.
