When I opened the mailbox and saw that my order from A Capella had arrived, I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning.

I walked inside the house and tore open the brown cardboard box to remove the treasure within. I carefully opened the cover of “Aimless Love: New and Selected Poems” and turned to check the title page. Yep, there it was, directly under his printed name: the autograph of the author, Billy Collins.

I knew back in the summer a new book of his poetry would be released this fall because I am Billy’s “friend” on Facebook. (I feel I know him through his poems, so in a way, we really are friends.) I planned to buy it when it became available, of course, and when I read he would be at a book signing event at A Capella Books, in Atlanta, and that autographed copies were available for purchase, I immediately placed my order online and hit “send.” And now it had arrived.
