Last week I took Mickey the Dog to the animal doctor. About a week later, Mickey sent me to the human doctor. It was serious business for me, but it was all a game to her.
Just out of puppyhood, Mickey is enthusiastic about everything. She especially enjoys playing fetch, and she has the game down cold — well, except for one area that could use some work. When I throw the stick, she runs and no obstacles will keep her from finding it. She races back with it and after just a little urging drops it at my feet.
It is the part where I reach down for the stick that causes her problems. She thinks we are playing some version of keep-away, and she lunges for it. Some of the time I am fast enough to get it first; other times she grabs it away.
