Friends who know my political inclinations would be surprised to hear me say that I look forward to the Obamas leaving office. But I do, in fact, anticipate that day with joy.

But my reaction is not because I dislike our president or because I disapprove of his policies. In the main, my politics align with his quite closely, and I remain confident that he will accomplish much in his second term.

But the day that president and Michelle Obama leave office likely will be the beginning of the next phase of their service to our nation and world.

And judging by past presidents, it seems likely that President Barack Obama may be even more successful as a leader after leaving office than he will have been in office.
