Candidate debates appear to be all the rage this campaign season.
President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney have gone at it hammer and tongs in a quest to influence an ever-shrinking number of undecided voters.
And how many Hoosiers would have guessed that reality TV celebrity Rupert Boneham would come off as studied as he has in his debates with Democrat John Gregg and Republican Mike Pence in the battle for the governor’s office?
And then there’s the increasingly hot and nearly vitriolic confrontations (debate is too mild a term) between Republican Richard Mourdock and Democratic Joe Donnelly in the Senate race.
Many Hoosiers likely are suffering from a kind of debate fatigue with only two weeks to go before the Nov. 6 general election. But Johnson County voters would do well to pay attention to one last and very important debate. This one is between U.S. Rep. Todd Young, R-Ind., and his challenger, Democrat Shelli Yoder.
The two are candidates for the 9th District seat for U.S. Congress that will represent all of Johnson County. They will debate from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Franklin College. The event will be broadcast by the campus radio station, WFCI- 89.5 FM.
