After watching Rachel Henry give a tour of the Johnson County Museum of History, its then-new director was certain she wouldn’t be able to match the performance.

Henry, who served as curator of the museum for 14 years and the county historian for five years, died this week at the age of 93. She was a master storyteller who seemed to know everyone in the county and their past, former museum director Mary Ann Plummer said.

When Plummer started as director, she asked Henry to come in to give a tour for a group of local children so she could get an idea of how to do it. Before long, Henry had her and the kids hooked on her every word.
