For their 6-year-old grandson, leaving his grandparents’ home in a boat was a game, but the couple took firefighters’ warnings seriously when they said their next chance to get out could mean calling 911.

Jerry and Brenda Buchanan, who live in Stone Village in the Center Grove area, opted to leave their home on a rescue boat at 10 p.m. Saturday, as the rain continued to pour. They had been warned they might have to call 911 to get out of the house later, they said.

They were among 11 people who left in a voluntary evacuation of the neighborhood along Stones Crossing Road, Bargersville Fire Chief Jason Ramey said.
