Franklin students who show up late to school and parents who need to pick up their kids early won’t be able to just walk into the building anymore.
First, they will need to press a button that alerts office staff. A camera will show workers who are outside, and they will be able to speak to them through an intercom, asking them who they are and what they’re doing before they will let them in. And once they get in, the only place they can go is the school’s main office.
Shortly after elementary students at Franklin schools arrived for their first day of school last week, their teachers started showing them how the new entrances work. Franklin’s five elementary schools now have double doors at all of their entrances, and for the first time those doors will remain locked during the school day.
