County residents are encouraged to adopt pets this month.
October has been named Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. The Humane Society of Johnson County and the American Society of Prevention to Cruelty of Animals want people to adopt pets from shelters.
More than 25 adoptable dogs are at the Humane Society of Johnson County and can be viewed at hsjc.org/programs/find-apet.
The humane society also hosts adopting events from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the center, 3827 N. Graham Road, Franklin.
