After an emotional week for Edinburgh’s football players and coaching staff, Friday’s home-opener against North Decatur might have come too soon, from the Lancers’ perspective.
Edinburgh opened the game by committing illegal procedure penalties on its first two possessions, and the Lancers were flagged for the same penalty later in the same series. They ended the series with a blocked punt, which the visiting Chargers returned for a touchdown, and that set the tone for a 41-6 North Decatur victory.
The Lancers (1-1) were coming off a win at Manual, the first time they won their season opener since 1996. But they were also playing without sophomore running back Steven Bailey, who suffered a lacerated lung, kidney and spleen in the win.
