Edinburgh falls to Lutheran

Defending Class A volleyball sectional champion Edinburgh dropped a four-game match to Lutheran in the semifinals of Saturday’s Lutheran Sectional.

The Lancers (27-8) won the first game, but No. 2-ranked Lutheran charged back to win three straight 17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

Leading the way for the Lancers with 25 kills was senior Abbi Bryant. Senior Jennifer Stinson added 16 kills and senior setter Maile Cox had 32 assists.

In the other semifinal matchup at Lutheran, Morristown defeated Greenwood Christian Academy 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 25-17. The Cougars finish 11-17.

At Saturday’s Class 3A Tri-West Hendricks Sectional semifinal, Danville defeated Indian Creek (13-16) in five games, 24-26, 25-15, 25-16, 18-25, 15-9.

Senior Elllie Abel had 17 assists and 10 kills for the Braves. Juniors Hollie Carrico had 10 kills and Erin Burbank, nine kills. Sophomore Tara Marlow finished with 36 digs and junior Jessica Knight had 16 assists.
