Edinburgh man arrested after mo-ped accident

An Edinburgh man was arrested on a charge of drunken driving after police said he hit a mo-ped, injuring the driver.

David Sowers, 48, was driving south on Walnut Street in Edinburgh just before midnight Thursday when he turned left and hit a northbound mo-ped, Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann said.

The mo-ped driver, Eric Streeval, 25, of Edinburgh was thrown 25 feet. He was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin for treatment and then released.

Sowers, whose address was not available, was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with endangerment. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.09 percent, above the state’s legal limit, Mann said.

Sowers was taken to the Bartholomew County jail, where he released on $7,500 bond.
