Franklin is planning to complete a downtown street project that is half-finished.
The city plans to spend about $225,000 to replace the storm drains under the south side of Madison Street and improve the road, sidewalk and curbs.
The north side of Madison Street was upgraded this year with new storm drains and sidewalks as part of the city’s $3.3 million North Main Street project to improve the drainage and roads. But upgrades to the south side of the street were not included in the plans.
Officials decided the city should do that work and also inspected the drains under the south side of the street and determined they needed to be replaced as well, street commissioner Ron Collins said. Construction is expected to begin soon.
