Residents and parents want to make sure local students get to use new technology and join sports and clubs, even if their schools are facing budget cuts.

They are raising extra cash themselves.

At Clark-Pleasant schools, community members became worried the district might have to start cutting academic, fine arts or athletics programs because of budget shortfalls.

Property tax caps limit the amount of money Clark-Pleasant has to pay for building projects, transportation and debt payments, and the district has spent the past several years trying to cut expenses.
