The logo is new, and so is the home-field playing surface.

Apart from those changes, the 2012 Greenwood football team will look much like the 2011 edition. And if experience counts for anything, the latest edition figures to be an improved edition.

Greenwood returns 17 seniors and 11 starters from last year’s 8-4 team, which advanced to the Class 4A sectional championship game, where it lost 38-14 to eventual state champion Cathedral.

Seventh-year coach Mike Campbell is confident the Woodmen, who have a new artificial surface on their home field, are poised to build on last season’s success.

“There are a lot of familiar faces. The seniors started as sophomores. Quite a few of them did,” Campbell said. “It’s a pretty good class, a strong athletic class across the board.
