Fire hydrant parts stolen from near Bargersville

Police are looking for whoever took pieces of fire hydrants near Bargersville.

The Bargersville Fire Department contacted police last week after crew members discovered that pressure caps had been stolen from two fire hydrants along Whiteland Road, between Morgantown and Saddle Club roads.

At least five caps were taken from the hydrants this month. The caps are used to protect the hydrant’s threads so they can be connected to the fire department’s hoses. The caps also stop debris from collecting inside the fire hydrant, Bargersville Fire Chief Jason Ramey said.

Fire officials are ordering replacement parts. The total cost of the missing caps is less than $500, according to a police report.
