Fire still burning in Franklin building

Fire has destroyed a building in Franklin that housed three businesses.

At 2:30 p.m., firefighters were still trying to control the flames after a fire was reported at 191 Commerce Drive just after 11 a.m.

The cold temperatures are taking a toll on the firefighters.

Three businesses are located in the building, Miller Chemical Tech, Fierce Allstars - Cheer and Tumbling, and Doug's Franklin Auto Care Center.

The roof of the building collapsed while firefighters were fighting the fire, which got into the attic and spread quickly, Franklin Fire Department spokesman Brad Epperson said.

Firefighters don't know what caused the fire yet or which part of the building it started in, Epperson said. Employees were working at the auto center on the south end of the building and told to evacuate by firefighters. No one was injured.

Forty firefighters from five fire departments are working to put out the fire. Firefighters are continuously rotating to get warm in the frigid weather and keep ice from forming on gear, Epperson said.
