The first baby on the southside was born to Tecey Smith and John Popplewell. Julius Wade Popplewell was born at 12:02 a.m. at Franciscian St. Francis Health

The first baby of 2014 on the southside was born just minutes into the new year.

Julius Wade Popplewell, weighing 7 pounds and 6 ounces, was born at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday to John Popplewell and Tecey Smith at Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis.

Smith was admitted to the hospital in late afternoon Tuesday. Other women were in labor but delivered before the year ended or after baby Popplewell was born. At least two other babies were born in the hospital Wednesday.

No babies were born in the first 12 hours of the new year at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin or Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
