Girls basketball rankings by this time of year tend not to be worth the paper they’re printed on.

That’s not to say they can’t serve a purpose.

During the course of the 2012-13 regular season, Indian Creek continued to wait for a level of statewide respect that never arrived. As a result, the Braves take the court at Saturday’s Danville Regional with a No. 14 ranking.

A ranking they share with another program.

“I think it helps us from the mental aspect,” said Indian Creek coach Dan Burkman, whose club rolled through last week’s Beech Grove Sectional, winning its three games by a total of 78 points. “My girls are well aware of it and take some exception to not getting the respect they think they deserve.”
