A science program in its third year at Center Grove and Frank-lin schools is allowing students to watch as scientists around the world conduct experiments measuring the strength of hurricanes and volcanic eruptions; but their teachers still want them to get hands-on experience in labs, including seeing how nutrition affects an animal’s growth.

Elementary and middle school students from both school dis-tricts can use the Internet-based Discovery Science program to watch and conduct online experiments that include measuring how long batteries last in different remote control cars.

Without the program, Northwood Elementary school teacher Jeff McCrary couldn’t do that experiment because the school district doesn’t have enough money to buy materials needed to test the different cars and batteries, he said.
