Franklin apartment fire displaces residents

A fire damaged a Franklin apartment, killed a few cats and left three other apartments uninhabitable.

The fire took place Monday morning in a house that had been converted into four apartments at 399 N. Main Street, Franklin Fire Department spokesman Chuck Ridpath said.

A woman was in the apartment when the fire started, but got out on her own, Ridpath said. No one was injured, but some cats died.

Several people called 911 to report the fire, which took place on the section of Main Street that is under construction.

The fire caused extensive damage in the apartment where it started, and the other three apartments in the home suffered water and smoke damage, Ridpath said.

The cause is under investigation.
