Franklin attorney Roy Dickinson was honored as the first recipient of the Atticus Finch Award by the Johnson County Bar Association.

Dickinson received the award in a ceremony in Johnson Circuit Court for his dedication to the cause of justice and his passion for the practice of law.

The award is named after Atticus Finch, the lawyer in Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

Dickinson has practiced law in Franklin, his hometown, since 1967. He is a general practice attorney, but his emphasis has been representing juveniles for more than 26 years.

The bar association will give the award only in special circumstances. Dickinson was called the inspiration for the creation of the new award in a news release from the group.
