Communities typically wait until companies come to them with proposals to open new factories, offices or warehouses, and then offer incentives.

But Franklin Mayor Joe McGuinness doesn’t want to wait for the phone to ring.

He and the Johnson County Development Corp. recently invited business leaders, commercial brokers and site selection specialists for an open house tour of available buildings in Franklin. The event was the first of its kind in Franklin and, as far as local officials know, in all of central Indiana.
