Four Franklin city offices want to add positions next year, including an additional police officer, street worker and a city code compliance worker.
Mayor Joe McGuinness is proposing a 2013 budget of about $21 million. His priority for spending the money is public safety and street maintenance, he said.
Unemployment has been high, and he is concerned crime could increase, so he wants to add another police officer to patrol city streets, McGuinness said. Franklin taxpayers deserve to walk on level sidewalks and drive on maintained streets, so he wants to add another street worker to help complete projects, he added.
The fire, police, code compliance and street departments all have asked for new employees.
