Adam Destrampe entered Saturday’s IHSAA Boys State Swimming and Diving Finals with and objective of finishing in the top three in his two events.
Despite coming up just short, agonizingly so in one race, the Franklin sophomore found plenty to like in his two top-five finishes at the Indiana University Natatorium on the IUPUI campus.
Destrampe took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 500 freestyle, helping the Grizzly Cubs to a 13th-place finish in the team standings.
Destrampe swam the 200 in 1:41.07, just 0.09 seconds behind North Central’s Joseph Steinkamp. In the 500, he hung with the leaders for the first 14 lengths before fading a bit and finishing in 4:33.16.
Despite not meeting his ambitious targets, Destrampe was satisfied with his performance.
