Franklin girls soccer coach Kristy Stroud wasn’t happy with the host Grizzly Cubs’ slow start.
But she had no complaints about how they picked things up after halftime.
Franklin scored five goals in the second half to beat the county rival Woodmen 6-0 in Tuesday might’s sectional quarterfinal.
The Cubs play host to Martinsville in a semifinal match at 7 p.m Thursday.
Senior Grace Kinsey led Franklin with two goals and one assist and seniors Bria O’Neal and Meagan Hash had two assists each.
Freshman keeper Lexy Montgomery recorded the shutout for the Cubs.
“I think we came out kind of sloppy and thought we had it,” Stroud said of Franklin’s first-half play. “Greenwood gave a good fight. We realized we didn’t and came back in the second half and played our game.”
Both teams battled hard for possession of the ball early in the match with much of the action remaining at midfield.
