In what was a long Sunday for all teams in the high winds at The Legends Golf Club, Franklin College claimed the 2012 Heartland Conference women’s golf championship.
The host Grizzlies posted a two-day team total of 696, finishing 18 shots better than rival Hanover’s 714. Rose-Hulman was third at 747, followed by Transylvania (754), Manchester (767), Mount St. Joseph (770) and Defiance (777).
Franklin captured its 12th conference title and earned the HCAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III national tournament in Destin, Fla., in May.
Franklin was led by sophomore Sarah Craven, a Whiteland Community High School graduate, who totaled 169 and placed second among individuals. Right behind was senior teammate Avery Brown, who finished third with 170.
