Golf benefit planned in memory of soldier

A golf tournament to benefit a local scholarship fund in memory of a local fallen hero will be Aug. 18.

Each May, the Silver Star Scholarship organization provides a scholarship to a senior from Whiteland Community High School in memory of Sgt. Joseph E. Proctor who was killed in Iraq in 2006. During his service, he earned the Silver Star.

In honor of Proctor, a Whiteland graduate, each year a scholarship is awarded to a senior who is joining the military while going to college or whose parents are in the military or veterans.

The golf scramble will start at 1 p.m. with an 11:30 a.m. check-in at Valle Vista Golf Club. Cost is $65 per person.
