Greenwood junior quarterback Ben Heller prepares to throw a pass during practice Wednesday. The Woodmen will visit Plainfield at 7 tonight.

Coach Mike Campbell insists there’s no complex strategy fueling the Greenwood football team’s success.

From his vantage point, the Woodmen’s approach is quite simple.

“The kids stick together. They just keep playing hard, and they keep doing what we practice,” said Campbell, in his seventh year as head coach. “They stick to the plan and they play hard.

“I think the biggest thing is just our consistency and our effort.”

Simple, but oh so effective.

Off to their first 6-0 start since 2003, the Class 4A Woodmen are simply adept at winning. Blowouts, close games, they’ve found ways to win them all.

Greenwood trailed 33-14 in the third quarter and seemed poised for its first loss of the season. By the time it was over, the Woodmen had stormed back for a 41-40 victory.

How did they do it? Simple.
