A Greenwood police officer who was arrested after a fight that injured several people early on New Year’s Day will resign from the police department.

Joseph Rodriguez, 41, who has been a Greenwood police officer since April 2000, was arrested after the fight early Wednesday. He was released from the Johnson County jail Thursday on $9,000 bond.

Rodriguez was immediately suspended for five days without pay after the fight, and now he must resign from the police department and check into a rehabilitation facility as a condition of his release.
