When Teresa Gross teaches her fifth-grade students Newton’s Laws of Motion, she hands out marbles and trays of flour.

The students drop the marbles of varying masses into the tray of flour to show that heavier objects leave a bigger imprint.

They also place coins on their elbows and try to catch them, which helps them learn about inertia.
