The circle of women gathered at Greenwood Christian Church, each sharing a story of marriage in crisis.
Some had a husband who was struggling to overcome drug addiction or alcoholism. Others described emotional or physical abuse that threatened their lives and the lives of their children.
A few women talked about infidelity and how it had shattered the bond between themselves and their husbands.
Joy McClain could relate. The Greenwood resident had been in an abusive marriage for more than 20 years, enduring alcohol-fueled rages and constant uncertainty.
Using her experiences, she now helps coach women through the difficulties marring their lives.
