Sophomore right-side hitter Jess Admire wasn’t yet born the last time a school other than Center Grove won the Johnson County Volleyball Tournament.
Admire and her Franklin Community High School teammates put a lifetime of waiting behind them, breaking the Trojans’ 16-year title streak with a 3-0 win Thursday in the championship game at Greenwood.
“I can’t even describe this feeling,” the Grizzly Cubs’ 15-year-old leading hitter said after the 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 sweep. “It is the best feeling in the world.
“We have been working toward this all season.”
In addition to ending Center Grove’s tournament run, dating back to 1996, the Cubs claimed the title for the first time in 20 years.
“It was really exciting for the girls to get out there and battle it out with Center Grove for a county victory,” said coach Chris Due said, whose team improved to 20-5. “Going in, we knew we were the No. 1 seed, but Center Grove was still the favorite, I felt.
