When Sgt. Brian Oliver meets Franklin Community High School freshmen for the first time, he knows that not all of the new students will like or trust him.

Oliver is one of four Franklin Police Department officers who patrol the high school during part of the school day, and he knows some students have had bad experiences with police officers, especially if they’ve had friends or family members who were arrested in the past.

And those students may try to bait him, asking if he’d like a doughnut or calling him “pig.”
