Heartland Community Bank is replacing and moving a Center Grove area bank branch.

The bank plans to tear down a vacant gas station and open a new branch at the corner of State Road 135 and Main Street.

The bank would then close the branch that is currently open less than a mile away in a shopping center on State Road 135.

The new branch will be in a free-standing building that will be larger, have more staff members and be more easily accessible than the current location, said Jeff Goben, the bank’s senior vice president of retail sales.

Construction on the new branch will begin within the next month, and will open by April 2013, Goben said.

Customers will be able to use the current branch, located at 489 S. State Road 135, until the new branch opens, Goben said.

Heartland Community Bank merged with Michigan City-based Horizon Bank earlier this year. Bank officials plan to close a Heartland Community Bank branch in New Whiteland.
